Associate Membership
An individual interested in Regular Membership in the Tuscaloosa Sailing Club shall first serve at least one year as an Associate. Prior to the Board of Governors’ consideration of the candidate’s application, each candidate for Associate Membership shall attend three Tuscaloosa Sailing Club events - which may be any combination of the following: race day (either on a participating boat or on the committee boat), social, or work party. The candidate shall state on the application the date of each of the three events attended and the name of a Club Member who can vouch for the candidate’s attendance.
Upon approval of the application for Associate Membership, the Board of Governors shall extend an invitation to join along with a statement of the initiation fee and dues payable. A prospective Associate Member may join by submitting the required initiation fee and dues in full. The offer to join will expire automatically if these are not paid within 30 days. Associate Membership shall be limited to no more than 40 individuals / families. Associate Members shall have voting privileges on all matters except issues of Associate Membership and may remain Associate Members no more than three years.
Regular Membership
Each candidate for Regular Membership shall complete at least one year as an Associate Member and must participate in 8 hours of work party duties for each year as an Associate Member. An Associate Member meeting this requirement may be offered Regular Membership by the Board of Governors. The offer would accompany a statement of the initiation fee due. If this fee is not paid within 30 days, the offer will expire. An Associate Member who has been extended an invitation for Regular Membership shall not be able to renew as an Associate Member.
Student Membership
Student Membership will be limited to full-time students. A student may be invited to Membership by special action of the Board of Governors after it has been determined to the Board's satisfaction that the student has a special interest in sailing and will be an asset to the Club. Unless the Board provides otherwise, Student Members shall pay Student Member dues. The dues may be paid quarterly and up to 16 hours of work party credits annually may be credited against the dues. A Student Member has the privilege of converting to an Associate Membership at any time if there is an Associate Membership vacancy, but must do so upon leaving school. Student Members shall have no voting privileges.
